She’s Here!

She’s Here!

Hi! We’ve had a good week here in Northern Utah. The weather is warming up a bit, there are buds on the trees, and…oh yeah…we have a new granddaughter! Daisy Ray Bauserman joined us about 10 days early on Friday night. Lauren had a crazy day of contractions and running back and forth to the hospital on Thursday with no progress. Then on Friday night, little miss didn’t waste any time and was born just before 10 pm. There was a bit of a hiccup in delivery when Lauren’s blood pressure dropped (and of course, so did baby’s) due to an extra dose of pain meds in her epidural. But she recovered and was able to deliver normally, despite being extremely medicated and numb. Miss Daisy’s a cute little thing and looks an awful lot like her big sister. Needless to say, we are tickled with our newest addition.

If you happened to click through to read the whole blog entry, you will now be rewarded with a story of an embarrassing moment. 🙂 Yesterday morning, I was still in my room, getting dressed and ready for the day when Alex called. As usual, I had one earbud in, since I often listen to podcasts and audiobooks and do various lessons and puzzles in the morning. We had a nice chat and then he ran off to have breakfast with his family. Then, a bit later, Lauren, Bo, and Daisy rang for a video call. I took my earbud out and stuck it in my pocket so that I could share the call with Nathan and Margaret and let everyone meet our new sweetheart. It was a great call and then we all went about our day. I walked out into the kitchen, grabbed my vitamins out of my pocket and threw the handful into my mouth with a big swig of water. But…then one of them got stuck in my throat and I had a heck of a time getting it down. Eventually, though, I relaxed enough and was able to take another swallow of water and down it went. Fast forward to an hour or two later, I’m ready to put my earbud in again and I can’t find it anywhere. I had changed my clothes, but it wasn’t in any of the pockets or on the floor or anywhere! I admit, I was a bit distracted with thinking about Lauren and Daisy and my upcoming trip to see them in a few days. My sister-in-law’s dog was staying for the day, and I even thought that maybe she had found it on the floor somehow and eaten it. Well, if you are perceptive (which many of you are), you will see now that it wasn’t the dog who swallowed the earbud, but it WAS ME! I’m pretty sure I muscled down my earbud like it was a fish oil pill! There’s nothing to do at this point but laugh about it…and order a new set of earbuds!

I hope you enjoyed a bit of my madness. I’m eagerly anticipating getting to snuggle that new baby in a few days. Things here in Utah are pretty typical, with house projects, house plans, and some fun family time mixed in. Have a great week!

We’ve had a good week here in Ohio and West Virginia. Nathan is still in a battle with a cold virus, but it’s been great beside that wrinkle. We’ve played with the kids, done some projects around Lauren’s house, and even found time for a trip to the dentist (Bo :)). We just happened to be around while he was off with his brothers and dad on a hunt, so it was a bonus to be able to help Lauren. She’s in her last month of pregnancy number four, so things are getting exciting! Despite being 8+ months pregnant, she prepared me a spectacular birthday dinner, making ramen from scratch (including handmade noodles) and a glorious flourless chocolate cake. I was spoiled to get fancy chocolates from my hubby, texts and calls from lots of people I love, and plenty of grandkid giggles and hugs. It’s been a good one! We’ll be picking up and moving on tomorrow…Missouri is next!

Although Nathan was fighting illness the whole time, we had a great time in High Ridge with Alex’s family. We got them a trampoline for Christmas and the weather was nice enough that we could get it set up and let the wild monkeys test it out. They are energetic boys and it’s a great way for them to work out some wiggles. We really enjoyed the regular agenda of bikes, swings, books, and building (from Lego to trains) along with the new additions of trampoline and exploring the storm drain. Alex had a business trip to Orlando, so we were happy to be able to lend some extra support to Hanna while he was gone. Big shout out to Alex for finishing up the long process to become a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA). He’s a graduate! Congratulations, Alex!

Now that we are back in Utah, we can regroup and plan for what’s ahead. Nathan got some antibiotics yesterday, so hopefully he’s on the mend. He’ll stick around here for a few weeks and help Margaret with some work on her current house and with plans and selections for her new house. We are also on baby watch for the next couple of weeks as Lauren and Bo will be welcoming a new daughter soon. I will be hopping on a flight back to help out there for a bit. Once I return here, we have big plans for travel for the spring, so stay tuned!

Not Warm. Loving It Anyway.

Not Warm. Loving It Anyway.

Hello from chilly Ohio! We had a great week traveling northward toward one set of grandkids, despite Nathan coming down with a cold. We had some fun in Nashville, where we had a pleasant surprise, and in Dayton, where we finally visited a museum we’ve been trying to catch for years. Now all is grand, as in grandkids!

We spent a couple of nights in Nashville. This was our third visit to the city and it was pretty cold, so we didn’t have much planned. As we arrived, we immediately started to see the destruction from Winter Storm Fern from the week before. There were downed trees and branches and damaged power lines. We were hearning stories of people who were still without power or trapped in their neighborhoods a week after the storm hit. It was dramatic. We booked a show at Zanie’s Comedy Club based on the Nateland Podcast hosted by Nate Bargatze. We like his comedy and this was a compliation show of comedians from around the country doing 5-10 minute sets. It was really good and there were definitely some talented comics. Then at the end, the host announced that there was a surprise and out came…Nate Bergatze! He was working on some new material and had just won a Grammy the night before. He was very funny and we felt like we got a steal of a deal.

Then it was on to Dayton, Ohio. We almost always drive by Dayton on our way between Alex’s place and Lauren’s home, so we often consider stopping. It was the home of the Wright Brothers and there are some really good historical sites there relating to aviation. The problem is that the national park sites aren’t open on Mondays and Tuesdays and that’s usually when we are driving through. We purposely planned to be there on a Wednesday this time so we could check it out. However, we also thought we could catch the National Mueseum of the Air Force on Tuesday afternoon as a bonus. But, alas, not this time. It was closed due to the partial governmenet shutdown. We did get to visit the national park site, though, including the museum outlining the Wright Brothers’ history and the only one of their bicycle shops that’s still in tact. It was worth the wait and we will probably be back to see more sometime.

Now we are happily installed in Marietta, Ohio again and spending a portion of every day reading stories, building projects, and giving piggy back rides. It’s just perfect and we are soaking it up! Have a great week!

Goodbye to Warmth

Goodbye to Warmth

We’ve had a great, if quiet, week here in Florida. We’ve managed to book some fun future travel plans, talk to the kids and grandkids and other family, and enjoy this corner of the world.

This slice of Florida has been great this month. We’ve really enjoyed being able to take our daily walks in a beautiful place. People here are friendly and the resort is impeccably kept. Although we have had some decidedly COLD days, we escaped the bitterest of weather that much of the country endured this month. We sure can’t complain! It’s been really good to feel settle a bit so that we could get some things done. To everything there is a season, and this has been our season to be still. Soon, it will be our season to move and we’ll bring you all along on some new adventures!

We’re on our way back to Ohio/West Virginia to see Lauren and Bo and the kids, but we’re going slowly via Nashville and Dayton. We’ll check in next week from beautiful Marietta, Ohio!
